In the past year or so, hiring in the automobile sector was tepid as the markets faced headwinds from demonetisation and GST. But as their impact has tapered off and consumers’ buying sentiments are being reignited, the auto industry is gearing up to hire in larger numbers.
Additionally, other factors are driving a more positive outlook on auto hiring this year. The latent demand for electric vehicles, driverless cars and digitisation are all stoking demand for more employees with niche skills in meeting specific requirements.
Consequently, more engineers are turning to automotive, where there is greater stability compared to IT. The advent of artificial intelligence in autonomous cars is also increasing the lure and prospects for engineers. Industry analysts estimate that automotive hiring in the last quarter increased by almost 30% over the corresponding period of last year. Double-digit hiring is also said to have resumed in the last quarter of 2017.
