New Processes and Technologies in Recruitment

People Matters organized a Talent Acquisition Conclave recently at Taj Land’s End, Mumbai. The event was attended by the who’s who in the HR fraternity and over 100 HR professionals looking for valuable inputs from thought leaders.

Pankaj Basal, our CEO and Co-Founder, presented PeopleStrong’s views on how new processes and technologies are changing the recruitment scenario in India.

The HRO industry worldwide is based on the fact that almost 70% of HR work is transactional in nature. More and more companies find it beneficial to outsource the routine work and focus on strategic areas in recruitment.

Today, the traditional sourcing channels of deploying placement agencies, job portals, print advertising and employee referrals do not do the desired job in sourcing quality resumes. The current processes of internal recruiters may not always be geared to deliver high quality results and the only focus on metrics is tracking the costs and the turnaround time for vacancy closures.

For effective sourcing, PeopleStrong utilizes the incubator model wherein recruitment is an ongoing activity. Right candidates are sourced and placed in various stages depending on their fit with the current requirement. The most suitable and ready are hired early and others placed on a bench. This helps improve turnaround times and costs for the organization.

We believe that right technology also has immense possibilities in recruitment. From using LinkedIn and similar web 2.0 tools for sourcing and interacting with potential hires, to sms integrations and timely feedback to each applicant, technology is a game changer in the recruitment process. New technologies like parsing, wherein thousands of resumes can be sorted and matched against the required skill set in a matter of minutes, is a very effective tool.

PeopleStrong follows a strong reporting and analysis framework. Metrics effectively work as a rudder to steer the boat and need to be extensively utilized. We break down each recruitment activity into sub processes and measure the KPIs(Key Performance Indicators). Effectively tracking each sub process rather than an overall metric leads to better improved processes. As they say the “Devil is in the details”.

The impact of all the new processes and technologies, in our view is multifaceted and touches every step of the recruitment function. The most dramatic effects are seen, though in improved candidate experience, higher offer to joining ratios and cost. Outsourcing the recruitment function helps in bringing variability to the cost and the organization pays as per hiring needs as compared to the traditional model of in-house recruiting.
